Smart Home
Smart home installation in Los Angeles costs between $15,000 and $75,000 for a whole-home Control4 system, and a focused single-room setup starts around $5,000. The spread comes from three things: how many rooms are involved, how many systems you connect (lighting, shades, climate, security, AV), and how much automation you want programmed. Every number below is a range from real projects. The only way to get your number is a free on-site consultation and an itemized proposal, and you can start that at our contact page or by calling (424) 301-7661.
What do the tiers look like?
| Tier | Typical range | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Single room or starter | $5,000 to $15,000 | One controller, one room of lighting or AV, voice control, app access |
| Whole-home essentials | $15,000 to $40,000 | Lighting, climate, and AV across the main living areas, a few keypads, scenes programmed |
| Full estate automation | $40,000 to $75,000 and up | Every room, motorized shades, security and cameras, multi-room audio, touch panels, custom scenes |
Most Los Angeles projects we quote land in the middle tier. The top tier is usually a larger home in Calabasas, Hidden Hills, or the Westside where shades and audio are part of the scope from the start.
What drives the price up or down?
Room count. Every room adds devices, wiring, and programming time. A three-bedroom in Sherman Oaks and a six-bedroom in Encino with the same feature list are different projects.
Systems connected. Lighting alone is the least expensive place to start. Adding motorized shades, climate, locks, cameras, and audio each adds hardware and integration work. Shades in particular are priced per opening and can move the total quickly.
Existing wiring. A home with a wired backbone or a proper pre-wire costs less to automate than one where every device needs a new path. Wireless Control4 lighting keeps retrofit costs down in older homes.
Controller and interfaces. The controller tier, the number of touch panels versus keypads, and whether you want a physical remote in every room all change the equipment total.
Programming depth. A handful of scenes is quick. A home where every room behaves differently by time of day takes longer to program and test.
What is included in the price?
The consultation, design, all hardware, installation with concealed wiring and recess mount plates, in-house Control4 programming, commissioning of every device, and a walkthrough with app training on the last day. Ongoing support plans are separate and optional.
How long does it take?
A single-room system is usually one to three days. A whole home tying together lighting, shades, climate, security, and AV typically runs two to four weeks from rough-in to final programming. New construction follows the builder's schedule.
Is there an ongoing cost?
Control4 offers an optional 4Sight subscription for remote access and voice features. The system runs locally without it. Our support plans are optional and cover remote troubleshooting, updates, and priority scheduling.

Common questions
Questions people ask about this
- Is $15,000 enough for a smart home in Los Angeles?
- Yes, for the main living areas. Around $15,000 covers Control4 lighting and AV control across a few rooms with voice and app control. Shades, cameras, and whole-home audio push past that.
- Why is the range so wide?
- Because a smart home is a bundle of systems, not one product. Two rooms of lighting and a full estate with shades, audio, cameras, and climate are both smart home installations.
- Can I start small and add later?
- Yes, and most clients do. Start with lighting or a theater room on a Control4 controller sized for growth, then add shades, audio, or cameras when you are ready.
- Do you charge for the consultation?
- No. The on-site consultation and the itemized proposal are free.
